Does your store/company have a website, and how often do you update the content including special offers etc?
Yes our store has a website . I work for a large retail outlet and it is updated regulary with all the current offers and promotions and you can order products online and get them delivered to your home.
Yes we have a website. But thankfully I have nothing to do with it's running! I can use the computer at work and at home but the technical side of things kind of goes over my head.
No we don't have a website . We don't really have the need for one .We are just a newsagents with a good location already so it think it would be benifical to us really.
We have a website. I don't have any input on it thankfully. We have a team for that who sort out it's content. It is always updated probably on a daily basis with promotions and new products etc. It has an online shopping facility on it too so your groceries can be delivered to your home.

I work for a very large US company in the UK which both have websites.
The US version has online shopping facilities. As yet the UK does not, but I'm told it will in the future be added....
We also have our own family business that has an online website that we update on a regular basis.
These days, there is a growing need for an online presence whether you think you need one or not, for a small outlay you can sell online, or just use the internet as a window to promote your company.
Our own site has cost virtually nothing, other than my hard work and determination to drive customers to our doorstep.
We host our own website on our own computers and i'd like to say we are doing well.
I wrote a website for a friend who has a Florists and host that for her here too.. why pay hundreds a year for a hosting company when you can do the job yourself for a few pence a month ?

Don't have a website yet but strongly thinking about it as many of our customers shop online, so it seems to be the way forward in order to compete with large companies and cut down on overheads.

I assume you actually mean it would not be beneficial
I beg to differ as I am involved in a small chain of newsagents
I put a trial website in place
Initially it was so that there was simply a website presence and was just simply a photo of the front of the shop, address, map, phone number, and email address
It was then expanded to allow people pay their weekly / monthly newspaper delivery invoice
However within a few weeks there were enquiries on email from people wanting their newspapers delivered, as they didn't have time to visit the shop or when they could it was closed
Equally, some of these enquiries were from streets where no deliveries were currently taking place, hence they didn't know that deliveries were possible
This was more recently expanded to other items for delivery from the shop (where stock could be guaranteed)

Don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I have just started on a new website for a client this week
It is pretty much essential for any and all businesses to have a website now, even just a basic single page
You will be amazed how many people simply search google for something, and if your business is not there then that's another sale lost
The cleint I am currently working for is listed in google but doesn't have an active website at the moment, which makes my job easier as google will pick up the new website within 24 hours of me making it active
As a result they don't get any enquiries through this channel

One of the potential drawbacks for my business as I see it is that I will have to have my prices as low as possible online to be competitive with other online businesses in the UK, but my shop has to charge slightly higher prices to pay for the range of dead stock, overheads etc. This will lead to many of my more critical whinging 'customers' asking why I can't charge those prices instore !
As a brief example, locals complain bitterly about prices charged by many local small shops , saying the shopkeepers are seen buying in a certain big city 'wholesaler'. When asked, they think that non-foods should survive on a mark-up of 18%.......I dread to think how they would view my prices (Which they think are very good value) if they knew the mark-up was 50-150 %.

The price is the price
I do not agree with a retailer charging £8 online and £10 instore
In some cases I will argue instore that they are the same company, will they match their online price
If not, then they have lost a sale
Equally, from a retailers point of view I can see why they do it
Visiting the store means you can have it instantly (unless it is delivered!) whilst online may mean having to wait several days
So if you are charging £10 instore then charge £10 online
You then need to add to that any P&P costs
That's what I would do, and many clients I have use that same model
The only exception are those that reduce the P&P with the more the customer buys
I agree with you, m8internet.com.
Having the same prices whether on or offline is better. The customer loyalty is a lot strong using the model, especially when you help them save on p&p the more they spend.

Our site is currently being seo so it is updated on a monthly plan, we have looked into marketing our store and seems if you pay a good seo firm it will help gain more sales through organic searches on search engines.

Yes we have a website and at the moment we only seem to be getting hits from local people who want to see what the shop and the products are like before they actually see the physical thing. I am not complaining because they do come in and spend rather than spend on the website. It will take a lot more hard work and SEO for us to actually start selling in volume on the web.
Strongly consider it as our many customers shop online, so it seems to be the way forward, in order to compete with large companies, and reduce indirect.
A business in this day and age cannot afford to neglect a website. The benefits far exceeds the costs.
