I am getting no support from my manager who runs three stores from a distance so I am solely in charge. I am not being given the funding that I need and have had to close early the last couple of months as I haven't got the money to pay my staff. Or I am working stupidly long hours myself.
Is it a bad idea to go beyond my manager and take it futher ?
I don't think so. If you like your job and are not getting the support that you need yo should do it.

The Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the premises
If you are solely in charge then you are presumably receiving Management pay and also a key holder, probably at least supervisor grade
If the business is incapable of paying for staff, then that is a matter for senior Management
There is no need to work excessive hours, you need to bring this to the attention of your line manager
If they fail to act on this then take the matter further, either to the Area Manager, Regional Manager, or Managing Director
You ideally need to keep records of the hours worked for at least 3 months
If you are closing the premises early, without your line managers permission, this could work against you, so be careful on this count
Do not use the argument that you are saving the company money, this too can work against you
Ultimately you may have grounds for constructive dismissal, based on hours and working practices
