Also joined today and good to see a forum about retail, and all aspects of retail
I've been working in retail since 1989, on the "internet" since 1992 (blimey I can remember 14.4kbps!), and running online websites and businesses since 1997
I am currently fully qualified Loss Prevention Officer and hold many contracts, with many of the main retailers as well as some you may not have heard of
I am always happy to give out free advice in any of these fields

Welcome to you both! How did you both find the forum? Its nice to have a LPO on board - how did you end up in Loss Prevention?

I've been working in retail since being at School
I started with ASDA, as a part-time Grocery Assistant, and at a local newsagent, whilst at school (I got offered both jobs on the same day!)
I then worked in a restaurant whilst at University
I moved on to the railway industry for a brief spell of three years with three different companies
I took redundancy as the railway was looking for volunteers, and at 22 it was much easier for me to find another job
I got a part-time job with BP and went back to University for another year
I just started with BP as a Manager, but had to leave at short notice
I was about to return to BP and was offered a job at a local family owned petrol station
I then went to Safeway for two years, working in their Stock Management
Out of the blue I then had a phone call from an old friend at BP who was now with Shell, knew I had an attention for detail in financial and stock matters, and after a short wait I moved over to their Loss Prevention Department
Due to cut backs at Shell I decided to franchise a site, rather than lose my job
The three year contract ended and I took a year out
I then launched my own independent Loss Prevention service, and I now have contracts with about 30 companies
I advise on all types of Loss Prevention methods, right from source of stock right through to the front and back doors of the store

I'll post some articles on Loss Prevention and detection methods over the coming weeks
Some will be more relevant to small shops, others to large shops, some with EPOS, and some that don't
