I have been using Google Advertising for about 2 years now
Google AdSense (Google Ads) :
This is for sites which wish to place targeted adverts on their website
Payment is on a per-click basis
In line with adverts, text links work best at generating interest and revenue
The major disadvantage is that the links do NOT open in a new window and the visitor is taken away from your website
The program is free to join, there are also some basic requirements to meet
Google AdWords :
This is for sites that wish to place targeted adverts on other websites
Payment is on a per-click basis
There is a one-off activation fee of £5.00
Payment is then pre-pay or by invoice
Pre-payment is the more sensible option for beginners, although the minimum is £10.00, you then do not need to worry about spiraling costs and unexpected bills for adverts
Performance can be monitored in real-time
Adverts are based on keywords and advert variations
There is no cost involved for advert placement, the cost is per-click
The budget choices are intially confusing as they are based on a budget and cost per-click
I've been using Google Ads since October 2003
Initially the revenue was about $100 / £50 every 4 months, however this has dropped dramatically recently and many people are reporting the same drop in performance
As discussed above, the main problem is that the links take visitors away from your website
However, the best performance still continues to be from text links rather than image links
To begin with Google Ads did not allow more than one content advert on each page, but this has been relaxed now
If using more than one, then the best results come from using different advert channels, otherwise can end up with the same links in the adverts!
I've only been using Google AdWords for a few days
In order to keep my website prices as low as possible I have been keeping advertising costs to a minimum
Following a revamp of my website last week I knew it would be some time until the search engines picked up on the change, and since I had a Google AdWords voucher this seemed as good a time as any to test and compare
Even with a voucher I had, there was no mention of the £5.00 activation fee and the requirement to load your account with funds (on pre-pay)
However, this does give me a more than generous advert funding campaign fund of £35.00
With clicks typically costing between £0.01 and £0.50 the account performance will be monitored over the next few months, and I will report back in due course
In line with SEO many search engines no longer use meta-tags so for anyone wanting to be ranked higher up the search engines this will soon become the standard method for such placement in a search engine
I have created a basic range of 28 keywords and 16 advert variations, some of which are based on my website content and others are based on other factors
Any questions are welcome
