Buster’s Coffee Company, a social enterprise in Sheffield, is looking forward to a great future, thanks to support from Business Link South Yorkshire.

Buster’s is a tea and coffee supplier, selling a range of Fairtrade products. As a social firm, a specific type of social enterprise, many of the staff have a disability and would be disadvantaged in mainstream employment.

Buster’s has received support through Business Link South Yorkshire’s social enterprise programme, which is funded by Yorkshire Forward and Objective 1. The company used the investment for a re-brand, creating a more commercially competitive look and feel which has been applied to a new website, marketing materials and packaging. Social enterprise support agency South Yorkshire Key Fund helped the company to effectively manage the project.

Mark Burton, of Business Link South Yorkshire, said: “Our social enterprise programme exists to help such companies become commercially viable. Buster’s is a perfect example of the kind of company we are looking to help, combining a sound social ethic with a dynamic business attitude.

“Buster’s has a lot to look forward to. I think their effective use of the investment will open a world of possibilities to them. It provides a real opportunity for coffee lovers to make a difference too.”

I think that it is a great idea , but would worry that they have too many well established companies as competition.

Thats not nescesarily true. I think store location will play a big role in this. If they are in a place with a high a flow of people they will succeed no matter what the competition as long as they provide a good service.

I would have to agree. We recently had an in store coffee machine put in and I was certain that I would be getting rid of it within three months, but to my surprise it is doing fantasticly well. The only downside being that it is quite high maintenece as not all customers seem to be able to aim for the cup when adding milk.
