Hey guys, I was just wondering, what software do you primarily use in Retail, and are their any significant cutbacks in any proposed projects

It really depends on the type of retailer
Some just use Windows or Linux with plugin software, others use proprietory systems

However, most till and/or BOS systems still rely on the EAN standard so can quite easily talk to other software packages

Asking who uses what software can cause a lot of problems for your business essentially. EPOS software is an investment an is a bit like buying clothing or a car, yeah you could buy the same product as a friend or under someones referral but it'll probably not suit your business.
EPOS software needs to gel with your business' type ie newsagent, forecourt, conveniance store, general retail, restaurant etc.

You then have to choose a system that you understand and you think will work with your business' processes and is also easy for your staff to understand.

We (EM-Data) offer EPOS solutions, but can also build your own EPOS software - designed for your business. This may be another avenue toconsider?

As others have said buying the right POS system is a difficult decision, many take a longtime to set up and are clunky to manage, others can look good but are slow to report on sales, its a tricky job to find the right one, we at www.forumretail.co.uk are happy to help and advise. There are no easy answers in what is right for you but we can ususlly find something that suits between functionality and cost.

Retail software is computer software sold to end consumers, usually under restricted licenses. Until the emergence of the Internet, retail software represented, until the 2000s, the vast majority of all end consumer software used and was referred to as shrinkware because software almost always ships in a shrinkwrapped box. An important historical event that led to the expansion of the market for retail software was the Open Letter to Hobbyists by Bill Gates in 1976.

Powerful POS(Point of Sale) software allows retailers to maintain absolute control over sales and inventory while presenting an easy customer checkout. It is a great solution for both your sales counter and telephone order desk.
