Who do you admire in the world of retail (if anyone)?
Tesco, under Terry Leahy, has been an unstoppable force, whether we like it or not.
And whilst not a retailer, Michael O'Leary of budget airline Ryanair, continues to perform in his chosen market, selling to end consumers.

I consider airlines to be in the retail trade
Basically any company which you can spend money from your debit or credit card, should be classified as a retailer
They may not be strictly in the "retail trade", but there are many companies out there where you cannot do this, so they are certainly not retail trade
My favourites :
ASDA, their range and pricing for CD and DVD media is typically the best and lowest
Sadly this is a "faceless" company, even when I worked with them in the 1990s
TESCO, their range and pricing for foods is typically the best although not the lowest
Their clubcard scheme has the best redemption rate, at 1%
Again though they are turning into a faceless company
Shell, since late last year their petrol prices have been the same or lower than TESCO and the same as ASDA
Argos, excellent price matching on white goods and delivery service
Sadly their warranty claims are not handled efficiently, shifting them to their third party provider, which they should not be doing between the 17th day and up to 1 year after purchase
Comet, again excellent price matching on white goods
However, their delivery service does NOT include installation on some items which has caught some customers out!
PC World, their business services department is excellent
Sadly they are very reluctant to exchange faulty goods, as they need to send them to the supplier for inspection or repair, which is slightly naughty

Really ?
Would you class restaurants for example as retailers aswell ? Technically it's true as you are buying and selling , but I wouldn't have thought of it as retail.

Yes, I classify restaurants as retail
After all they too appear in many of the retail magazines, and follow the same template as retail...
So long as the customer can purchase a goods item or service
Pay by any reasonable method, including cash, cheque, debit card, credit card, online payment method
Retail :
1
The sale of goods to ultimate consumers
Of, relating to, or engaged in the sale of goods or commodities at retail
2
Pertaining to, connected with, or engaged in sale at retail
To sell in quantities directly to consumers
I do however draw the line at plumbers and electricians!
