It really depends on the model, how old it is, and if the parts are available
You will also need to transfer the data from the old hard drive to the new one, or ensure the new hard drive also comes with a copy of an operating system
Our company tends to purchase the base model for a hard drive
We then clean out the hard drives every twelve months
Each user is now issued with a 2GB flash drive, and if they want to keep junk, then they use that
Once you have fitted a new drive and installed the operating system, the cheapest and easiest way to transfer the data off the old drive is to buy a USB hard disk cable from eBay (they are about £1 + P&P). Make sure you get one that can fit a laptop drive. It converts the hard disk into an external USB drive, which makes it very easy to copy the data off.
