Practical, imaginative and plain cheeky ways to save money:
• Budget – set a monthly budget for living expenses and stick to it.
• Mix and match supermarkets – shop around to make the most of money off deals.
• Don’t take credit cards out – stick to cash when you go shopping, then there’s less temptation to run up credit card bills that you might not be able to afford to pay off.
• Make money from your junk - raid your loft or garage and raise money at the local car boot sale or by selling on eBay.
• Take your foot off the pedal - watch your speed and try not to use your air conditioning in your car, that way you can keep your fuel bill down.
• Look after the pennies - put all your spare change into jars or tins at the end of each day – it’s surprising how quickly your money mounts up.
• Packed Lunches - take a packed lunch to work with you.
• Cheaper Commuting - try asking your employer if you can start work later one or two days a week – travelling after 9.30am can mean lower travel fares.
• Don’t go shopping hungry - always eat before you go food shopping! That way you won’t be tempted to make impulse buys.
• Have a Fridge Party - Invite your family and friends over for dinner and ask them to bring what’s in their fridge and see what you can all make – it’s social, imaginative and saves money!
