Recently released is a module of www.Zubed.com that enables retailers to plan the opening or closure of stores. Using social demographic data, age gender income etc, as the base map you can plot either your store location and/or competitor locations over the population heatmap.

The system requires no GIS experience, can be tailored to exacting requirements, both quickly and cost effectively, and can be deployed in days.

The website can be located at www.Zubed.com click industries and retail.

Probably a good product or service for someone with little or no business or retail experience
It's certainly not the kind of product or service a medium or large company would use or even consider!

Equally, such information is available from local Authorities, and many larger companies pay them for it!

I think this is a great idea personally - the only worrying thing is the cost implications for small businesses.

There are many shops that have gone wrong because of the area they sell in, and allot of shops that could probably do with this advice.

I can see myself there are certain shops I see on a daily basis that you think - this just doesn't suite the area.

For example I know a great bar - anyone I've ever gone there with loves it - the location is just really odd - and it would never be seen by new people to the area as it down a side alley. Location is key to all retailers / bar-restaurant owners etc...

However I can agree that bigger businesses would be more obliged to this idea than the smaller retailers.

Quote from Mothercare:

“Zubed’s online retail analyser has introduced a new phrase into Mothercare’s vocabulary – ‘Have you Zubed it?’ Our ability to identify the best locations for store expansion is critical to our financial success as a retailer, finding those needles in the UK haystack that meet what we know to be our optimum demographic geography.”

“In the current economic climate, though faced with a daunting range of opportunities, the consequences of making a wrong decision, or not making the right decision fast enough, are far reaching. Zubed has revolutionised the way we work; for the first time, our staff can economically assess the viability of each and every prospective store location without reference to expensive and time-consuming surveys, consultation or analysis.”

“Using Zubed’s online mapping application, we need simply draw around the area we’re interested in to view heatmaps of key demographic indicators, overlays of our existing stores and those of our competitors, as well as to automatically calculate statistics for that area, that are critical to our decision process. It takes literally seconds. Whenever a new location is considered, the first question we now ask is: ‘Have you Zubed it?’”.
