Here's a pleasant surprise: October retail sales were more or less the same as last month...
OK, so technically October retail sales were marginally down on September’s figure (by 0.1%). But that’s still a much healthier picture than everyone was expecting – most analysts were predicting a drop of 0.9%, in the belief that the deepening gloom was driving even more shoppers from the high street. But it will clearly take a lot to stop us Brits shopping – in fact, today’s figures revealed that retail sales last quarter were 2.2% up on the same period last year. But the question is: at what cost...?

How were your sales in October?

I've compared our shop sales, month to month, and year to year, and I can't see any major difference
However, shopping patterns have changed with people spending the same amount of money on cheaper or non-premium brands

Given that petrol is now 10p and diesel is 5p lower than it was at the beginning of the year, and pretty much where it was this time last year, I think people seem to think they have more money at the moment

However, the bank base rate has fallen to a ridicilously low rate, but credit, charge card, and overdraft rates have not fallen this
The Bank of England was looking for a kick start to the economy and I think they have achieved that aim in the short-term, but I SERIOUSLY warn of the post-January headache with businesses unable to sustain this, with many big and small names going to the wall
