An article in Management Today (http://www.managementtoday.co.uk/newsalerts/article/877693/ryanair-feels-chill-q3-loss/?DCMP=EMC-Daily%20News) prompted me to think about the way we lead our teams through the economic crisis.
I've been totally up front with my teams, telling them it's tough, but if we focus 100% the end result will still be ok, and I do believe that.
How's everyone else approaching the topic?
The thing is , we could really try to pad them all with cotton wool but this would be wrong. Especially with the media adding fuel to the fire , it would be both stupid and unfair to them if we were not being honest.
I totally agree , that you should just focus on being the best you can be, and stay strong as a team so your staff don't get deflated, and give them as much support as they need.
Leadership and open communication is the key here - especially if you are dealing with redundancies. If you were the employee you wouldn't want to be left in the dark. I have heard some terrible stories where employees have heard the situation as it is through the media before management gets a word in. I would be honest with the employees but like Emma says, you do not want to give out the impression that the company is bullet proof.
I am still a one man team, but thanks for the article.
I think leading a team will be a great challenge and I cant wait to I reach that point.

Good leaders motivate their staff using a variety of skills, learned through training and experience. You can develop these skills to get the same results. People are motivated not only by personal gain but also by feeling part of the business and contributing to its goals.
