View Full Version : Retail Job for a New MD at Primark?
Guys it looks like the legacy that is Primark may be about to change?
Apparently the current Managing Director, Arthur Ryan (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/profiles/5828095/Quiet-man-who-changed-the-face-of-retail.html) is due to step down from his position there in September leaving speculation of what will happen next?
He is the man behind the Primark we see and love today for our bargains - he is due to leave this legacy after fourty years of hard work!
When I saw this article I was also amazed to see that Primark first opened its doors at Pennys in Ireland in 1969! How mad is that? Who thought it has been around that long? The firsy I heard about Primark was probably about 5 years or less ago! Now I can't live without it though!
To go from that one store to 190 stores is amazing isn't it? Imagine all the retail jobs that they have created over the years!
Lets hope whoever takes the job after him doesn't try to change anything major! I love la primajey the way it is hehe! Don't be putting up any prices or changing anything major..........
It is rather amazing to hear that Primark has been open that long though! I was a young teenager when I first heard of Primark being a bargain shop. Before I knew it there was one being put into my town's shopping centre. Now they have sprung up everywhere!
I heard that they were building a Primark in Bristol and over 14 000 people applied there for jobs - no joke!! Can you imagine the quality of candidates they have at the moment?!
Primark, as everyone knows, is a highly successful business so I hope that the new management sees no need for radical change. Though do you think they may want to tackle all the publicity about their workers and how the clothes are made?
Yes I also heard about the publicity showing how thier clothes are made - problem is with people continuing to shop there and the pofits soaring in do you think they will?
I cannot believe that they have been around so long - I had honestly never heard of them! Crazy isn't it? Now I always have the odd thing from there! It is just so convenient - esp when you want a top for a night out and can't afford to go all out in spending etc....
Lets hope the new guy, apparently its someone that used to work for New Look or something, doesn't change the stores or the prices, but maybe looks a bit more closely into the ethics in the way the clothes are produced etc....

oh thanks lol :p
I know what you meant emily ;)
Is primark anywhere else in the world? Or is it confined to our little islands? See if we have any Primark guru's amongst us hehe.
I remember when I was 13, it was outrageous if you smoked, boys were still a bit icky and getting drunk was the coolest thing ever. Now I am nearly 19 and it makes me feel like an old teenager - smoking is normal, we have learnt the truth about men and now drinking is legal we just moan about the price in pubs ;);)
My Emily you are still ten years younger than me hehe! Feeling Old now! LOL!
There are a few Primark stores dotted around Europe too which I read in the same article, I think Spain and Portugal to name a few!
