Have a look at this. I was reading FIS (http://www.fis.com/fis/worldnews/worldnews.asp?l=e&country=&special=&monthyear=&day=&id=33370&ndb=1&df=0) and apparently Iceland foods can create up to 3500 jobs (yayyyy). This is obviously a good sign, altho i am sad we've lost so many Woolworths stores.
This could be the start of the increase in retail jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/retail-jobs) and other jobs in general. :D
ooo how are they planning to create jobs? Are they opening more stores? Expanding previous stores? Or are they going to be daring and dabble in a new sector like finance (I don't think I have seen Iceland loans yet lol!).
Will these jobs cover all retail roles or are they focusing in a specific area - eg management.
Sorry for all the questions! I am going to move to Nottingham soon and will be looking for a new job that can offer very flexible hours - so this could be a good opportunity if I get in there quickly haha!

hey there :D
from what i can understand, its general retail.
And theyve also started to develop a refurbishmentand opening program. lol youd better hurry tho. Theyve received about 89,000 applications for the 3,500 jobs it is generating.
:D
Well I don't think we can complain at this! And it is nice to see that a company is willing to fill the empty Wollworth slots. I think Woolworths was in every big town and its departure has really dented high streets across the UK.
It seems like supermarkets are doing really well. At the end of the day you have to eat and drink I guess. Has anyone seen the price of food creep up though?

A deal was done on the Woolworths premises a long time ago actually, even before Woolworths decided to "close" its retail street operation
Without giving too much away, but it's not "Iceland" the brand as you may know it, it's a new wholly owned subsidiary
Visit a larger Iceland store and you may get a hint at what they are planning!

I wonder what is going on....... Anyone finds out let us know hehe!
Oh and by the way - 89000 applications? Did I read that correctly? That is HUGE!!!!!!! I wonder how they will cope with that! I hate going through a few hundred! Let alone thousand!

But its true. they had 89 000 entries for 3500 jobs. I think theyd better have a LOT of coffee handy. but its 3500 new jobs so we cant really complain.

89000 applications for 3500 vacancies is quite low really
The local authority here (North Lanarkshire) recently advertised 1 vacancy for a school teacher and had 500 applications
The person dealing with it spent one day opening the letters and a further two weeks just reading them!
At the other end of the scale, my local M&S had eight vacancies, received just under 50 applications, and of those held only 20 interviews
Even then 2 people turned the job offers down!

yea the numbers might be quite low, but its still staggering. wow really? they turned them down?
Its weird isn't it? How even in this climate when jobs are so scarce people are being picky or a job just gets no applicants?
We have had a few like that in my area and its weird- its a perfectly good job and yet it got like 5 applications to give one example!

I think in some cases, people ask themselves, would i like to do that? and if they weigh up the pros and cons and there are more cons to the job, they decide to look for something else. I dont think a person can afford to really be picky these days tho. i mean your first pro would be a future and financial stability...... which outweighs all i think. :D
Dude I agree with you completely! I mean how can these people be so picky?
You do need to take what you can get in this climate and be a bit more flexible as well! Its mad the job that dont get filled!
