I know some of you have your own websites, but are you making substantial profit from trading online? And how does it compare to your in store sales?

How many small retailers actually trade online? Or is it purely an extension of your store front?
It would'nt really benefit a smaller business would it? Unless it was your main source of income

A website can be anything form a simple presence to a complete trading setup
I run one for my local newsagent
It started off as a simple photo, address, phone number, and fax number
A few weeks later the owner advised me that they had started getting faxes for sandwich orders, and wondered if this could be converted into a website ordering service
I had it up and running the next day, and the following week the faxes stop!
The business used to sell about 20 sandwiches a day and now sells near on 200
The order facility was expanded to include most daily essentials
OK, so they are only orders and it still requires customers to come to the shop and make payment, but the customers are guaranteed their order and know how much it will cost
It also pretty much guarantees return trade during the week
However, be prepared for errors and mistakes
One day the sandwich supplier failed to turn up, so all the customers had to be sent an eMail advising them
Ironically, since customers knew in advance they didn't seem at all phased, and the following day was is if nothing had happened!

Web stores can be an very effective method of drawing in more business, a web store is open 24/7 and can reach a far more broader audience.
Online shopping is conveinence, customers, due to work can only do shopping at the weekend, and when they arrive home from work don't wish to make there way to the local Tesco. With their favourite outlet having a web store they can makes purchase any time they wish, and your not loosing business to another retailer.
A web store is effectively having another store, minus the bricks and motar. As previously mentioned it is open 24/7 and has a far broader audience. If a web store is advertised in the correct way it can draw in a lot of business - some of our customers claim a 1/3 of their weekly business.
We currently supply EPOS systems, which intergrate into our web stores, stock is transfered from the EPOS to the web store with minimum effort. EPOS will benefit your business, giving you a more professional image, control over stock and increase revenue. A web store will increase more turn over and attract new and more customers.
