View Full Version : Spiders Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I went into my garden last weekend and haven't ventured out there again since because of what I saw!
It was horrifying! There were huge mahousive webs everywhere! With big spiders in them! Then after I noticed this and realised I couldn't go out my back gate due to one blocking my way I came in and realised...... They are all over the doores and windows too.......... Eeeeeeek
Then a few days later I walked in the living room and one was hanging from the ceiling and everyone was just sitting there watching tv??? WTF!
Then yesterday when I came home last night, another big mama on the bush right out side the front door! What are they doing barachading my house so no one can get in and out????
More to the point where are the stupid bloomin cats in all this?
Oh and to top it off I saw on TV this am that there are more spiders this year - the dude said where you might normally see 4 or 5 in your garden your likely to see 20 or 30 now???????????????????????
My question is WHY? Is there any thing that will stop them coming like this?

Since when did cats eat spiders?
It's been getting like this for the last few years
This is probably due to the dramatic decrease in so called "garden birds" within the UK, resulting in more flying insects and therefore more spiders
Equally the last few winters have been shorter and warmer, giving the spiders a longer year
There was a similar problem with seagulls a few years ago, as they were forced from their traditional feeding grounds with the dramatic cuts in fishing, and so the seagulls headed inland to the cities
However, the seagulls couldn't cope and within 3 years the population had reduced by nearly two thirds
The native seagull population is now reckoned to be nearer what it was in the 18th century!
Equally, I remember nearly 25 years ago Glasgow city centre use to be swarming with Starlings
Most evenings around 19:00 thousands would fly over the city centre
With well managed refuse this ended 10 years ago
I can only assume other birds have followed the Starlings to other countries, the Starlings are now a plague in Rome
Prince my oldest cat loves them! But he only bothers with them when they are on the floor!
The other three just chase and torture them and thats about it!
So how do we get the birds back? I can't take this amount of them! They literally are covering my garden!

Horrible isn't it? Why did they have to have excellent breeding conditiona and where are the birds to eat them?

I hate spiders, I havent seen that many yet, but i think diablo might have something to do with it, he hunts anything that moved, well if its smaller than he is. beetles, spiders :D. You could add a bird feeder or bath to the garden, but you might need to watch your cats tho. I had to put a bell on diablo's collar to scare the birds when he pounces.

Ok so this weekend I braved it and went into the back garden as I couldn't see any near the door!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!!
I went to put a sheet on the washing line grabbed the line and something was hanging off it.................. Ewwwwww it was a mahousive spider! Its web broke when I grabbed the line! I dropped the sheet and ran inside, leavng the whole basket of washing out there!
Then as I ran in I noticed three additional biguns in the bush... Grrrrrrr!!!!
I made my housemate go out and collect the washing! He was also too scared to get the bloomin spider but offered to get the broom and break the webs for me.... I wa slike no! They will be crawling all over my feet instead then haha!
Needless to say I have not ventured out there again!

If you have a hose maybe spray them down. I cannot believe the increase in them!! Its disgusting! Theirs not really much we can do though is their?
I was searching the internet and kept coming across websites that sell these
http://www.getridofspiders.co.uk/4.htm
This seems to be some sort of spider deterrent - I wonder how affective these are though? Does anyone here have one?

I must say I am surprised there isn't a retail outlet near me that sells these they look pretty fab!
I wonder if they work though?
I agree with darkphoenyx though - while they may work inside what are the chances for those that are hanging around outside????? :(
Will defo look inti this though - definately looks like it might work! Hehe! Imagine a shop especially for selling these! What a job!

Haha yes but this is also a clever way of getting the boyfriend to participate in the washing ;)
i can deal with them if they are tiny tiny little things, but anything bigger than half a centemetre, then you can probably hear me calling for help and waiting for my boyfriend to come to the rescue lol

Haha definately agree with you there! Money spiders are ok - the incy wincy ones hehe!
Boyfriends should be trained from a young age to deal with spiders :p

Oww I don't have one to do that. I usually call my daddy haha as I still live with my parents hehe
:o
i don't really have a problem with the spiders themselves, it's the web i hate!
a thread or two i can still deal with, but when you walk through one of them and it's all over you.
yuck

hahahahahahaha picture if you will :D sitting at my desk, working quietly, then out pops a jumping spider. the FIRST thing you hear me shout id "kill it" "kill it", whereby phoenyx backs away from the desk almost in tears. arachnaphobia maybe? :D Seriously tho. there are a lot of dangerous spiders out there, and where i live i need to be sure i know which they are. I cant always rely on diablo. his naps seem to take priority nowdays.
the other evening i was sitting on the floor, can't remember why, when i felt something on my leg, turns out to be a spider.
it's small, so feeling generous i just tap it back onto the floor and carry on.
few minutes later the very same spider is walking on me again. probably happened about 3 times before i killed it.
he really was asking for it :)

HAha maybe he liked you :p
I keep seeing them at the moment but these are mainly small ones and as long as they stay still when I am in the room and are not near me I can cope - just about lol!
The other day a tincy wincy one started crawling across my notepad on my desk! I paniced and thre the thing across the room then went and picked it up shook it and went and sat down again! I got a few look s from colleagues and just said 'a spider' and sat down haha!
lol I can just imagine the strange looks.
my sister was kicking (for no reason) against the stair when this fat spider crawled from nowhere across in front of her and she kicked it. it just popped
was so disgusting

ARGH! Naasty - I hate those juicy ones! Mind you that will teach her for kicking at nothing, eventually something will come along that you can kick at hahahahahaha!
at least it's just something and nothing something that can kick back. :)
would have been hilarious if it had jumped on her shoe, can just imagine the scene that would have caused. :D

Haha I hate jumping spiders they freak me out more than the running ones! Ewwww they make me cringe! Imagine your going to get it and it jumps up at you
i had an encounter with one of those. i brushed it off, it jumps back, brush it off, jumps back. so it went on for like 5 minutes.
i think he must have had a death wish or was showing off :D
Im glad it was you and not me - I would have just sat there and screamed and cried all at once hehe!
Jumping Spiders are a big NO NO in my books hehe!
I think it's hilarious when people start screaming, love watching the show :D
but if the shoe was on the other foot, I'm sure I'd find nothing at all funny about it. :o

See the difference between you and me is you can watch and laugh! I would probably watch and cry as well haha! I think they are evil lol!
they're trying to take over the world! starting with your back garden :D
