So did you see this tonight?
Stephen Robertson from the British Retail Consortium didn't stand up well to Ann Robinson!
Equally, Sainsburys advised the multibuy price was an error
Oh yeah, join the thousands of others then!
I must be a savvy shopper as I have been avoiding the tricks they use for years
However, sometimes the bargains REALLY are bargains
I recently filled my trolley up with trays of Home Pride
The checkout gave me a puzzled look wondering why I was buying so many, then on scanning the first one "That price can't be right"
I bought six trays, enough to last six months but well within the expiry date that I would use them all up in!
The following day the price label had been corrected, from £0.08 to £1.88
Another is Pepsi 2L
Normally £1.56
Promotional price £1.00
Cola 2L
Normally £1.56
Promotion 2 for £2.50 (ie £1.25 each)
If the Pepsi is NOT £1.00 then I buy the 4 pack of Pepsi at £4.49
You got bread that cheap? Haha wow! I wish that would happen to me a bit lol!
P.S. I did not watch the watchdog thing :(

No, not Homepride bread, Home Pride Sauce, the really large jar that is normally about £1.50, hence why I bought trays of them!
Equally, Homepride wouldn't last six months!
Yuk!...

Haha silly me lol! Wow that was still one hell of a discount! Should have bought it and sold it on hehe!

I'll have to find this on iPlayer - been in Scotland for a few days. There are definitely some bargains to be had - but you've got to be savvy to spot them!

That's the issue which Watchdog raised
Toilet rolls, which do you buy :
6 rolls for the price of 4 for £1.98
12 for £4.93
18 for £6.64
Logic suggests the largest multipack is cheapest
However, you can buy the two or three of the small pack for less than the larger pack
Sainsburys claim this is a "mistake"
Strange, as it is STILL on their website this morning!

or 16 rolls for £4 at Asda at the moment - charmin I think! bargain!
Wow I need to learn tips from you guys! I do usually tend to go for the bigger packs thinking its more value for money! Need to re-think this when I shop!

I hate shopping. I think it really does help if you are calculating as you go round. But who has time to do this these days?
I hate shops where they do allot of 2 for 1 as well. And it’s usually for items you really don't need - like biscuits and crisps. So you end up stocking up on them.
Has anyone heard that Asda have cut their banana price! To 38p a kilo!
I find this really irresponsible. The people who farm this produce don't get enough as it is.

I do as LITTLE shopping as possible, at the right time, and I know EXACTLY what I want
I typically go to my local TESCO between 08:00 and 10:00 on a Saturday or between 10:00 and 12:00 on a weekday
I typically ignore promotional ends, unless something is clearly on my list or a suitable alternative
I used to have a large fridge freezer, and fill it up
I then decided to do away with it and now have a medium sized fridge only, why should I hold their frozen stock!
This means I have a lot more fresh food AND I have to eat it
However it does mean I make two shops per week, rather than one large one, but it has worked out a great money saver, and not just in the electric!
Stores regularly cut prices on single lines
This is a marketng process known as "loss leading"
They are prepared to make a loss on a small number of discounted products, knowing that other products will make money
Bananas might be down 25p, but how many products went up 1p?
Safeway used to do this :
Spend £50 in store and get 10p off each litre of petrol
However, the week before it started they would revise ALL their store prices UP
Then after it ended the store prices were revised down, but not back to their original prices
You could tell when a price revision was taking place!
I can't believe how clever they all are! Its crazy to think that someone has the job of thinking all this up and then implementing it and it works!!!
We just can't resist a sale or an offer - even if really there is nothing being saved or we are being ripped off in other areas! Its a total scam if you ask me! I can't believe it!
The whole petrol thing is the biggest shocker in all this! Im usually really happy when I get outr petrol vioucher from tesco! What a job they do hey?
Clever people! But now I know!
P.S I like you prefer to do smaller shops and eat fresher food - although for me it has only been something that I have been doing for the last 6months and I must say it does work for me!
I watched the show and after watching I have became wary of prices from supermarkets and noticed a few "discount prices" which actually work out more than the individual price  Not good behaviour from leading supermarkets!

Perhaps I am just savvy from when I worked at ASDA in 1989 and Safeway nearly 10 years later!

Definately but this has made me more aware too so thanks for sharing :)
Oh yeah - watch the price on your beer next time you need to get a few tinnys in for a party too - I've often found that in Tesco , 3 x 4 can packs , or 4 x 4 can packs can be cheaper than a 12 can or even a 20 can slab of beer of the same size cans, unless there is some 2 for one football related offer on (Stella wifebeater particularly, although it does happen with other brands)

Again - you can't beat calculating everything to ensure you’re getting the best deal lol
See this thread making me more aware the way it has actually saved me some money the other day - A for pack of coke was £5.5 or something similar or there was on offer on buy 2 for £2.50! So buying them like this worked out cheaper than the four pack! I would never have thought to check before I read this thread! Crazy isn't it?
it's amazing how big co-operations are allowed to do this

But did it actually save you money?
Is it something you would have bought anyway?
Or did you buy it just because it looked like a bargain?
I tend to avoid ANY and ALL promotions, unless
1
It is something I intend buying AND it is cheaper than the unit price
2
It is a promotion and I will make use of the item or as an alternative to what I had intended to purchase
I had a relative who would buy loads of promotions
When I looked in their cupboard it was FULL of stuff...
I worked out there was 5 years worth of toilet paper!
Surely would it not be better to just what you need for the next month and spend the money on something else, like HEATING!
After watching that programme i will be avoiding all promotional offers unless like others have said its something i need and is cheaper than unit price. Yes i would agree with above its better to buy as you go not supplies for years down the line lol random :D

Yep we were on the coke hunt anyway as he were having a birthday party for our housemate and he and a few friends drink JD and coke so it was required! So all in all a good thing about this thread :)
I must admit I have cut down a lot on useless buying and my freezer is almost empty apart from some frozenb spices and garlic bread! This thread has done me some good don't worry :p

Think of the insulation value of all that toilet paper though! buy enough of it and you won't even need heating any more ;)

Not much use as insulation, as it was all stored in the cupboard in the centre of the house
They need to learn a thing or two then don't they really? I mean seriously what a waste of insulation prospects :D
