Seems that the German home shopping group Quelle is about to close. The company has been going for 82 years and is closing because they couldn't find a buyer in time. Quelle was part of Arcandor retail group which filed for bankruptcy in June.

This means that about 7000 people are going to be losing their jobs! :(

This is really sad news. Seems there are going to be many who will still be losing their jobs as a result of the recession.

Wowzer is that just in Germany or are some of the staff UK based as well?

That is a big hit for that industry I can imagine? 7000 People losing thier jobs at once! How terrible is that?

Lets hope they are all not in one area as well or it could be bad for the unemployment for that region as well

As they didn't say where exactly the losses would be in the aritcle I am only guessing, but it would seem to me it would be widespread losses.

It's a scary amount of unemployed people all in one go, no matter where they based.

Definately horrible!

Ok so I just googled them and they are the largest home shopping group in Europe!

Terrible then really as the Job losses will be spread as you initially said! Lets hope everyone gets thier orders etc before the whole operation closes down?

Poor people!

i actually have read another article which said about 4000 jobs will be made redundant by Nov 1st. The rest will be staying on to fill the final orders that they have, after that they will also be unemployed.

So they will be fulfilling their last orders, can't think that anyone of the 3000 will really have their heart in finishing off their time there though. :(

Poor people :(

The worse thing is that they will be less than half the original work force - won't they have a very hard job to do? Or are they expecting much less in the way of the final orders?

Scary isn't it? When such a large amount of people are made redundant in one go? Its just that many people out there looking for jobs that are so few and far between!

Also after a job like this what do you do? Retail? Another home shopping place? Its hard to imagine isn't it? Some of the people must have worked there for a long time as well?
