View Full Version : Haha Singing in Retail Jobs not allowed?!
OMG I read the funniest thing ever today, see this article - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/8317952.stm
A woman was told she was not allowed to sing whilst at work in a shop by the performing rights society (prs) – apparently you need a licence to sing on the shop floor these days????
Too funny I couldn’t stop laughing at this – how many of us would be in trouble for singing in our various retail jobs and other locations do you think? Its stupid but funny!
Good news is that they have apologised to her and sent some flowers or something! Meh heh!
:D
that is soooo stupid.
i would probably be in trouble all the time. i start singing along or even just singing to myself without really realising what i'm doing. only realise later when someone is looking at me a little funny. :)
maybe they trying to stop the people that don't have such a great singing voice. it's usually them that sing the loudest and the most.
I know because I'm one of them :D

How can someone be fined for singing?
Surely it would be the premises that would be fined!
I think its bloody stupis as its human nature to hum along or sing whilst working away! I hate the idea of having no music whatsoever! It gets me through the day you know?
I do my job always with some tunes on in the background and may occasionally end up humming or singing along - my singing is not great either poppy hehe! But I find it quite therputic you know?
I would hate a job with a music ban!

The issue isn't the music or lack of music ON the premises
The issue is the PERSON singing
It would appear the PRS visited the premises and challenged the PERSON
I suspect someone on the premises applied for a PRS licence so that they could have music on the premises
Without it, there should be NO music *unless royalty free such as in some supermarkets - awful tadadaada tunes!
