I read something today that comes as a welcome relief - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8328921.stm

They are saying that toys costing less then £50 will dominate xmas lists this year! The average price for toys on the list is just over £26 which is good for the likes of me with numerous kids to get gifts for!

The Toy Retailers Association list included things like;
GO GO Pets Hamsters
Kidizoom Multimedia Digital Camera
LEGO Games Minotaurus
Monopoly City
Princess Peppa's Palace
Sylvanian Families Caravan - who remembers these? Apparently they are making a come back?

I do wonder though – will any of this have an affect in retail jobs or will they remain the same?

What’s on your Christmas list then guys?

Christmas
Bah, a retail over-hyped event

Several years I started having a more "traditional" Christmas, and it's far more enjoyable

NO Christmas presents in the morning
Attend a local charity and give at least 1 hour of my time (each year it is a different charity)
Visit at least three different relatives (not listed below)
Christmas dinner held at one of three grandparents (which rotates every year)
Gift ceremony (since there are so many people, the presents tend to be small and basic) which typically takes about two hours

I see what your saying and agree with you totally but due to the large number of kids in our families - mine and my bf's we have to split the time between each of our parents houses!

I like the way that you do things though and definately think it should be something that more people look at - I mean giving your time to charity and visiting family is definately more what it is about you know? It is a time that we should concentrate on our family and charity rather then the whole money thing! Its something that needs to be combined I guesss?

Christmas is definately over commercialised. M8-Internet has a point. with kids tho i can imagine. its a huge thrill to wake up early in the morning to open gifts. altho with our family its all done on christams eve. that way on christams day we can focus on family. What we have also been doing is making gifts. :D we all enjoy arts and crafts of one nature or the other so its fun for us, and is a more personal touch to gifts as well.

Wow that does sound good! The most arty thing I have been given at xmas is a hand made card from my baby sister! Oh and last year she gave me a princess paper plate to eat with haha! (She is 5)!

What kind of things do you make for each other?

Aaah wow that sounds so great! I would definately prefer to be goven something that was made like that - I mean it comes from the heart you know - and the effort that goes into them is far more valuable than any money spent on you!

I would find it hard thugh to keep all the little bits in order and use them before I lose them type of thing you know? Unless I had a special rook just for that kind of thing - which off course I do not :(

We have someone in our family that is also very creative and loves making gifts instead of buying them. It is also so nice to get a gift from her.

Tried it myself a couple of times, but a lack a few things. Mainly patience and creativity. :D

I'm sure they all look lovely, but I am sure the dragonflies and butterflies are especially beautiful.

Thing is I know myself, I might be really keen to start it when I am bored, but will get frustrated because I can't do it perfectly within the first five minutes and then I just give up.

Terrible I know, but there it is.

I'm working Xmas day...

Why are you working xmas day???? :(

I think the dragonfly is the prettiest of them all! Although the spiders are nic I would just not be able to carry it around as I know at some stage it would totally make me freak haha! What a wimp hey????

Poppy
23-11-2009, 10:28
Ah no, why?
I've been really lucky, not yet had to work on a Christmas Day.

Sally I would probably take the spider and then throw it near to someone (in my family of course, I don't go around torturing strangers) who I know will get a bit of a fright. It's so funny and payback for when they do the same to me with worms.

Dark Phoenyx

lol, some of the patterns make the spider terribly realistic, and at first glance it would look real. :D youd give them quite a fright.

aaaaaaw sorry to fear that retailworld :D, im working till the day before christams eve if thats any consolation :D
