View Full Version : Shopping for a coffin
According to an article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8333198.stm) Wal-Mart is now planning on selling coffins.
They going to vary in price from 895 (540 in UK) to 2899. Customer's will also be able to pay for them over 12 months with no interest and can be dispatched withing 24 hours.
At least for now it is only going to be a limited test to see what customer reaction is going to be like.
Undertakers are not worried about them having much impact on their jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/) however as they say Wal-Mart can't offer the bereaved families the human touch. :D

I'll just have the plain plywood one please
I'm still convinced that behinds the scenes they remove the body and don't burn the coffin itself!
Carrots..... check. washing up liquid .... check. Milk.... check. Coffin....... ;)
whats next !!!!!!!! or maybe I don't want to know
Haha this has to be the funniest thing I have read in a while!
Imagine going to buy whatever you need and picking up a coffin along the way?
Plus with these payments what do they do if it has already been buried? Take it back if you miss the payment?
What a job haha!
Seriously though eventually I think there is nothing you will not find in a supermarket! They just seem to be selling it all dont they? Then you have the in house optician, pharmacy etc etc....
i wonder if they make you climb in to see if it fits you or rather if you fit it. who says you going to be the same size when you eventually need to use it?
just imagine they pitch at the funeral and say "sorry, but this has not been paid for, we need to take it back"

Or worse after the funeral lol!
I am not sure I would buy my own coffin - there is something abit eerie about that dont you think? Yes when I die I want to be buried in this one hehe!
Or after you have paid for the coffin for twelve months you decide that you'd actually like the more expensive one. Because that's the one your neighbour has gotten. :D
I can't imagine choosing my own coffin either, just to depressing. We all know we going to die, but to actually start planning for it? That's just another kind of weird. :(
Its funny to think they are going to whack them right there in the supermarket along with everything else! I still can't get over it!
I wonder if the sales will be successful? Imagine a working ina retail store that sold coffins! Wowzer! What a job! I wonder what the targets would be?
Out of curiosity I just googles this and although Wal-mart have just started selling coffins it looks as if Costco started selling them in August and they think thiers are more luxurious than anything any other retail outlet can provide? See this - http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/aug2004/nf20040818_7779_db016.htm
 Oh and they come in different colours including lilac! Why did I think coffins were always wooden? Hmmmmm.......
I wonder when we will see them in Tesco or Asda???? Haha!
Lol That was an excellent article. Although they were wrong about wal-mart. Suppose you can't always be right.
I don't know about you, but I can't figure out why you would want to have your coffin Neapolitan Blue? Also they have positioned it well, next to the air conditioners. Give you a feel for how cold it'll be when you eventually using the coffin, unless you going to be cremated. :p
What colour is Neapolitan Blue anyways? LOL!
Hmm Im sure about all these fancy colours either! At the end of the day once your gone are you going to care?
no, I'm not.
There are also so many other things to worry about, that I don't really see any point in worrying about whether I'm going to be buried in a neopolitan blue or a lilac coffin. :p
what if I want a coffin in a colour they don't have? will they customize it for me?
no, I'm not.

This conversation is a bit odd isn't it? :D Just realised what we are talking about! Coffins! I would truly hate a job where I had to sel them! Not liking the thought of it at all!
Don't let them invade uk supermarkets! Not a thing to have I dont think! Its quite eerie!
hehehe It is a bit of a weird conversation to be having really, but also a little funny.
We can only hope that they don't invade UK stores, but even if they did I would definitely not be one of those selling them. That would just be to much weirdness. :)

Agreed with you there! Not something I would fancy myself to be honest!
Food, Clothes, Shoes or whatever but no coffins hehe!
No, not for me. I can't help but wonder what else they will think of selling in their stores soon?

Houses? Tractors? Sheep???? LOL!
Can you just imagine the sheep? You would have to ask the customer whether they would like the sheared or if they were going to take it as is?
And also inform them that there is a no return policy on the sheep once they have sheared it themselves. :p

I remember hearing about this last year. Hilarious.
I've also heard that Costco has started selling coffins in bulk at a reduced rate!;)

Hehe so wjhats that take one for each of the family and get a discount??? LOL
Buying a coffin for yourself is weird, but just imagine bulk purchasing them.
I think I'll have five of those for my family please. Two in blue and the rest in lilac.
That should really raise some alarm somewhere. Why you buying more than one coffin?
haha Id like to think so poppy - I mean surely they would think your planning to bump a whole load of people off one by one? :p
