When retailers appeared before the Low Pay Commission they were going to ask for a freeze (http://www.talkingretail.com/news/independent-news/13553-retailers-call-for-pay-freeze.html) of the minimum wage.
They say that in the last 10 years minimum wage has increased with 60% and that retailers can't afford and have to cut back on hours. Meaning job losses and stopping investment which would be beneficial to the economy and the communities.
They say the wage freeze is makes sense because of the tough economic times.
I'm sure it makes sense to them, definitely not to those that are currently working in retail jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/retail-jobs) though. Minimum wage is just that, minimum. Just because it has increased in the last 10 years, doesn't mean that is still sufficient now.
They forget that everything else also becomes more expensive and that there is no price freeze on the basics that they need to be able to survive.
I would like to know what the outcome of that meeting is.
