It would seem that sometimes advertisements don't have the effect people thought they would. Well, that certainly seems true about Marks & Spencers new ad or at least according to Waitrose.

Waitrose has apparently had apparently had it's highest sales growth in a normal trading week since 2006 in the seven days up to 7 November.

They reckon it's because of the adverts Marks & Spencer have been running comparing their prices to Waitrose's Essentials.

I wouldn't really be worrying about why my sales figures are up, would just be really happy that they are.

Hehe if thats true then it is funny :D

What a shame for M&S hey? Tesco/Asda etc are always having thier little price wars on TV though aren't they? Its funny! I honestly think to get the absolute best prices you would needto visit all of them and get the best priced goods from each! But who has the time to do all that?

Maybe shoppijng online? But then do they charge delivery? I have never ordered food online before so have no idea?

Who has the time...
Equally, is there any benefit in visiting several shops to get the "cheapest basket"
In effect you would need to visit each shop at least once and where you have then worked out where the cheapest items are, to then go back and purchase them from those stores

What you would then have saved in prices you have wasted in travelling costs!

Here is something I do...
If you purcashe the same products then you can visit the online version of each store before you leave the house
Fill a basket and then compare
However this can vary depending on if you are buying generic or branded items

I have no idea what or whether they have delivery charges, but I am defnitely not going to be spending that much time comparing prices and having to move between 2, 3 or even 4 stores. I don't like shopping, so will go in the nearest one and get what is cheapest there.

Great idea though about going to check the prices on the internet first, I think I'll try that from now on.

Definately a great idea! But like you Poppy I am a bit lazy and think only to go to the nearest place to me to shop!

Although saying that I do have Tesco more immediately, but another 5 mins up the road in each direction is a Sainaburys and Waitrose! I suppose it just depends doesnt it? I mean I never visit Waitrose unless I go to my GP as its closer to there and Sainsbury never as I never go that way!

This comparing prices via the net thing is a good idea - but am not sure if I would ever get around to it? ;)

At least you GET to the shop
I know so many people that do their days work, then do their shopping online, get home, and it is delivered!

I worked out it takes the SAME TIME, although there is some time saving in that you don't have to go via the store

Equally, you are buying specific items, and NOT browsing
Supermarkets actually don't like that...
How often do you go in for milk and cheese, and come out with the kitchen sink!

You always remember things you don't really need when you in the shop.

Sometimes it is something you need, but more often than not it is just some random thing that has caught your attention. Like that cheeky little chocolate that starts calling for you the minute you walk in the door. lol

Trust me that me all over! Last night I went in for some bread and yoghurts ands spent £30 or so and then "popped" into M&S next door to have a look and spent another £40! Its dangerous I think don't you?

But I like going for a wonder - but perhaps online shopping is better? Hmmmmm..... I bet I wouldnt spend as much thats for sure!
