Hows this? Business Scotsman.com (http://business.scotsman.com/retail/Deal-done-to-save-leisure.5850274.jp/) have this article about Blacks Leisure and how more than 4000 retail jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/retail-jobs) have been saved yesterday after the landlords gave their full support to a rescue deal.

Creditors did a vote that favored a company voluntary arrangement to a restructure of the outdoor chain for the purpose of making sure they stay in business, with more than 97% of them agreeing to give their support. Blacks have asked the landlords of some 89 closed or closing retail stores to accept lower financial claims on the firm. The retailer which is based in Northampton, and dates back to 1861 has set aside aside £7.25million to cover just over 100 landlords of retail stores and other sites, equivalent to about six months' rent each, in return for canceling its long-term lease obligations.

Think this is awesome, Scotland has been hit rather hard by the recession and loosing more jobs there wont have contributed in any way, its also cool to see people stand together for a good cause.

I think that is really great! The way people are helping each other out in these hard times! I mean the consequences are far worse if they were to go bust than if things are sorted out to suit thier needs right now for a bit! Good on them I must say!

Saving the jobs of that many people is great news!

4000 jobs think about it, that's a huge amount of people who would have been out of work, I can imagine how grateful they all are, its got to be tough having a family to feed and then suddenly hearing that you no longer have a job or income to support them.

When I hear about that many people either losing their jobs or coming so close to losing their jobs it just makes me go cold. It makes me realise how lucky I am still to have work, but also how easily it could be me that is facing the possibility of being made redundant.

It's really a scary though and being this close to Christmas makes it even worse.

SallyA

I agree with you it is a scary prospect and you just don't know who is next at the moment do you? Companies are going bust still or people are being made redundant still - even now after things are meant to be getting better! It does make you wonder how much better they really are doesn't it?

Yeah Poppy with Christmas just around the corner people without work are probably in a slump, Christmas is a time for family and when one does not have money the cares of the world seem to overshadow the joy of the season, but I watched a movie the other day called "Anywhere but home" very funny movie by the way..... anyway they had this idea for buying Christmas presents, everyone was not allowed to go over the 10 dollar cap when buying presents which I thought was a brilliant idea, in these times people can't really afford to buy big gifts anymore, so if all the family was given a limit you would not feel obliged to go all out.

To help a bit with the presents as well my sister and I have decided that we will shop together and split the price of the present between the two of us.

That way we'll still be able to buy for everyone, only they'll be getting one from the both of us, in stead of one from each of us. I would rather get one present, than none at all.

Of course, those rules don't apply for kids, but I don't mind. Enjoy watching them and taking photo's of how excited they are.

I can imagine. and now luckily these people can relax and enjoy their christmas. My only thought is wot of the other landlords that didnt agree. wots going to happen to those people.

My husbands family is quite huge 3 brothers 2 sisters and then they have their kids too, the kids are always an exception of course as they enjoy the presents the most, I must admit I like getting presents too though :).

If someone said they didn't like getting presents I would have to say they are lying. How could anyone not like getting a present?

Hopefully those landlords will change their minds. I suppose if they don't it might mean that there are going to be at least a few people that will not have a job anymore.

lol I adore getting presents :D I hope they do tho. but i guess if the landlords dont budge, they cant make extra money appear out of nowhere to help those that might be out of a job. Its just sad to see that so many might not have the same christmas i have. :( its sad.

I dont know but this year there does not seem to be a good Christmas spirit going round, it does not even feel very Christmasy to me. Iv put up my tree but thats it iv not even bothered to put up the rest of my decorations think im going to do that tonight.

You are right Dark Phoenyx if there is no money, there just is no money nothing much that can be done about it, sad but true.

Dark Phoenyx
09-12-2009, 08:48

Mellijelli
09-12-2009, 09:15
Ahhh no tree?? well I dont blame you as I said I did not even feel like doing it this year as im planing on moving soon to another town so thats got most of my focus right now so putting up all the decorations seems a little pointless at the mo, but im gna do it anyway wots xmas without the trimmings?

SallyA
09-12-2009, 14:46
Haha Mellijeli you have to have the trimmings get on with it lol!

We havent done ours yet either! Jose still has to get it all out of the loft! Hmmm.... maybe I'll get to do it on christmas day?

Mellijelli

Mellijelli
10-12-2009, 09:37
oooh thats unforgivable Dark Phoenyx :D i actually have 3 trees a white one a green one and then my latest a fibre optic tree which is really lovely i must say and its all decorated for me all i have to do is plug it in and et voila lights stars and more lights ;). Id like to put all three up but i dont live in a very big place so its a bit much, hopefully when i get my house ill be able to do that, Dark Phoenyx I could borrow u one of mine if you like hegehe

SallyA
10-12-2009, 17:19
 Don't say that! Now I hope mine is still where I think it should be hehe! After you haven't seen something for a year or so it can just kinda go walkies dont you think so???

My sister buys a new one every other year - crazy woman, I usually just take the one she no longer wants haha!

Mellijelli

Tis funny that, how things seem to go missing especially when you really need them, and then how you seem to find them when your not even looking for them, i hate that as it often happens to me, thing is i put it on a place then someone will come along and use it and put it on another place and then its "let the hunt begin" :D

Dark Phoenyx
11-12-2009, 08:36
They do, seriously. Its annoying to go to the last place you KNOW you saw it, only to stand there with a O.o look on yourface coz youre staring at an empty space instead of what youre looking for. then its a hunt, and retracing steps lol i actually thought at one stage that i shud leave myself clues.... but id proably never find them either :D

Mellijelli
11-12-2009, 08:43
:D something like leaving a trail bread crumbs? retracing steps has on occasion helped me depending if I can actually remember in which order I did things when I last used whatever im looking for, but in most cases I just end up getting really frustrated cause iv searched through EVERYTHING to no avail :(

Poppy
11-12-2009, 12:16
Unless it is a matter of life and death, I have given up looking for things that have gone missing.

I already know that there is very, very little or no chance of all that I am going to find it. Retracing my steps will also not help, because I can't remember what I was doing 5 minutes ago sometimes.

So I have had to learn to just leave it until someone else finds it or until I have forgotten that I am looking for it and then find it. Problem with that is that by then I usually can't remember why I was looking for it. :D

SallyA
11-12-2009, 14:27
Haha sounds like me all over!

I hate it more when I know it was there and someone has moved it and they all deny all knowledge! Then two weeks later it pops up again that really gets to me

Guess what the tree is finally up! Jose did it all by the time I got in from work yesterday hehe! Brilliant no work for me to do lalalala!

Dark Phoenyx
14-12-2009, 06:15
Ah thats brilliant :D lucky you, Im going tree hunting this weekend, going to get the biggest and brightest one i can find. :D all trimmings included of course :D after almost destryoing the entire house and my lab, i cant find the darn tree at all. sigh. ah well it was time for a new one :D

Maybe its a sign that the old one had it and you needed a new one? LOL!

Ours is getting old as well! My mum's looks amazing compared to mine! They did a brilliant job and have it all coordinated etc.... Mine looks totally irrelevant compared to hers! she got a real one though and that always makes a huge difference me thinks!

Mine is about 4/5 years old so i think next year maybe the year for a new tree!

Mellijelli
15-12-2009, 06:20
Ah nice so everyone finally got their trees and decorations up I see well done!!! :D i seriously need to now get all my xmas shopping done, but funnily enough the stores were not that busy for this time of year when I went in this past weekend

Dark Phoenyx
15-12-2009, 07:09
:D I am going to get mine over the weekend. i believe it is a sign yes. my old one was rather small, and well probably more irrelevant than yours is SallyA :D

I hope for my sake it isnt busy this weekend. i have a few more things to do and buy. i just dont want a massacre at the checkouts.

Mellijelli
15-12-2009, 07:33
Either people have drastically cut down on their xmas spending or people are leaving their gift shopping till last minute which is normally the case, I know I ALWAYS do that.

Poppy
15-12-2009, 13:59
I have made it my mission to do my shopping in the next few evenings after work. I just can't face having to fight my way through the last minute crowds next week.

Although I just know that I will have to at some stage or another.

SallyA
15-12-2009, 15:41
I always think like that Poppy and end up having something to do at the last minute which means I cannot avoid the crowds no matter how much I might wish to do so  I have no idea why but it always happens! This year I am better than most other years and only have a few things to catch up with so not all bad I guess!

Dark Phoenyx
17-12-2009, 07:28
This weekend is my turn to get the rest of the items :D i need for xmas. Im looking forward to it, but im also terrified of the crowds. so hold thumbs im still sane when i get home :D

Poppy
17-12-2009, 13:18
I know, there are always last minute things that turn up or some person that you thought you wouldn't see, that decides to come visit and you need a present for them.

Besides that, I still haven't done any shopping. Keep putting it off, because I just know what a mad house the shops are going to be. I know it's not going to get any better. :(

SallyA
17-12-2009, 16:30
Hehe well I am currently in the process of trying to get my mumsie to take me shopping tonight (I still cant drive, even at my age) as I want to go to Kingston as the shopping is better and open till 9pm tonight.... Lets hope she says yes :D

Poppy
18-12-2009, 09:53
I got to the market last night. At last.

Got a few presents there, but will definitely be hitting the shops tonight, no matter how much I don't want. But I'll be taking my mum with me, as I can drive and she can't.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA well i went out this weekend and got it done, I was thinking after it was all finished that they could in fact rule xmas shopping as an excercise. my legs ached for a good 2 days afterwards. but i got it all done, and my tree is up ( as promised) complete with angel lights :D so im ready for xmas, till xmas eve, when i will be ruining my kitchen cooking all day :( :D

Mellijelli
21-12-2009, 07:13
