I see a new shopping centre is being built in Glengormley a news article by BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/8403410.stm) says that the minister responsible for planning, Edwin Poots, has given the go-ahead for plans to redevelop Northcott shopping centre, so a bit of a revamp looks like (sounds good).

The £35m regeneration plan will knock down the existing centre and construct a new retail outlet called Sandyknowes Shopping Centre, the new outlet will have a food superstore, cafe, 12 mall units, a petrol station and space for 840 cars, wots more is that the project is expected to create some 250 construction jobs and 200 retail jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/retail-jobs) .

This wont affect any of the other shops that are on the same site as they will be incorporated into the center also such as Tesco.

Wow not that I know anything about the area but it sounds quite good if I am honest!

If if regenerating an area then its always good to bring in extra business and provide a better place to shop for locals! I guess with it comes the added bonus of job creation as well?

Yeah I actually enjoy going to the big shopping malls as they have all the stores in one, saves a person riding around also.

Recently they built a huge mall here by us with 5 levels and it has a casino as well, a person literally gets lost in there :p, but yeah the creation of jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/) is always a bonus in these times.

I like going to malls just after they have opened and having a look around, but the initial curiosity has worn off I usually don't go back.

Definitely prefer something a little smaller, don't like the feeling of getting lost in the mall when I go in just to have a look around and see what is there.

out here, where I am, we have a small little village centre. it has one restuarant, one coffee shop, one computer shop, a hairdresser, and one or two small shops. I like that tho. it has a view over a little dam where you can actually sit outrside and watch the wildlife on the dam. I dont like big shopping malls at all.

I am completely the opposite I love them! The more shops the better for me! I adore shopping whether it is in a market or in a shopping center!

Some of my favorite places to go shopping are in the little markets that are dotted around at Christmas though! I am not the kind that likes shopping in the same place all the time! I like to find weird and wonderful things and markets often proove to be the best place for this!

Sometimes the big shopping malls are better as their shops have more than the little stores, but then you find these little shops that have some really awesome stuff that you cant find in a big shopping mall just like you said SallyA, I also like finding weird and wonderful things, flea markets are good for this too they always have things ud never find anywhere else.

Its true. I love walking around flea markets. all the weird stuff you find there is amazing. adn generally the stranger it is, the more likely it will attract my attention. you dont get that in huge shopping malls. small shops are also ideal, but in the area i live, you have a ten minute drive to get to the nearest mall. unless you go to the small shopping centre we have here.

I also love markets. The things you find there can range from the really weird to the really useful. Can always find something that is useful or that would make a great gift for someone.

Can't wait for my next trip to a market now.

Talking about weird and strange shops, there is a shop in a town called Welkom here the shops name is Exquisite, went down for a wedding a month or so ago and decided to go look at some places, this shop is just weird it sells anything from Halloween costumes to bong pipes, then there is the edible underwear and hubbly bubblies, gosh strange ornaments of wizards, basically everything ud not find at any other place, but its quite an experience to go and look i must say :D. I bought some banana leaf smokes there, they tasted awful and made me hack lol

Sounds like one of the best kind of shops to walk have a stroll around. I love those kinds of shops with all things weird and wonderful.

I wouldn't mind visiting that shop, but would obviously stay away from the banana leaf smokes.

SallyA

Haha I cannot imagine Banana leave smokes? The idea itself put me off lol!

Sounds like an odd shop - but the type I love to go in just to see what they have you know?

Thanks Sally. That would have been really great.

As it is I went to a market last night, got a couple of presents for some people. So I can breathe a little easier today, knowing that I have some down and only a ton to go. :D

I have started prepping myself for how bad the shops are going to be this weekend already. Hopefully I will make it.

I went late night shopping last night I spent so much in 15 mins it shicked me afterwards lol!

Market day this saturday wo0ho0! That also spells the end of my shopping as I am nearly done noe hehe! Brilliant.... Just need to get wrapping now! I did some last week but then got kinda lazy again lol!

I can relate. I got the last of my gifts on saturday, and the thought of wrapping them had me running to those wrapping services they have in one of the dapartment stores i was in :D two of the gifts were hopelessly tooo huge for me to wrap. :D

Mellijelli
21-12-2009, 06:55
Those wrapping services are so handy and they really do a good job of it with the bows and cards you can have with them if you like, all you do is sit back and watch them do all the work lol and they dont ask much to have it done either.

Dark Phoenyx

SallyA
21-12-2009, 12:19
Well guys I am all shopped out and have no money even if I wanted to shop more lol!

I found some wonderful things at the market.... Beautiful stuff. I found this one stall that does like middle eastern furniture and bits and bobs, got a jewellry box from there, silver with elephant type pattern... Wonderful and then there were other places seeling jewellry, clothing all weird and wonderful! Paintings as well - there were some places selling the most wonderful art and so on and so on!

You would have loved it all!

We got Jose's god daughter a bike, that is in a huge box! The only thing I have yet to wrap! LoooooooooooooooooooooooooNG thing!

LOL SallyA I just got a flash back memory from when my gran bought my sister and I and my 2 cousins a bicycle each for xmas, what she done instead of wrapping them was put huge bows on them and then hid them under the beds in all four her bedrooms, one in each room, when we got there xmas morning she told us to each go into a certain room and look under the bed, little did we know what we would find under there, i was ecstatic when i saw mine it was a red one :D maybe you could try that instead of wrapping?

Dark Phoenyx
22-12-2009, 11:25
hahahahahaha that IS an excellent idea. My first bike was hidden in plain sight. my parents told me it was for one of my cousins. I sat fuming coz it wasnt mine, then after they gave it to me, i was mad coz i believed my dad. :D he was the original prankster.

:) what was he like on April fools day??? hehe I must say as a kid I got the most awesome presents always, roller skates, gosh those really got their moneys worth, my gran was the best ever, she worked in retail at receiving and so she got discounts on everything in the store, she worked for the OK which is still around today actually, they sold everything from clothes to toys to food and furniture so we got a lot, mostly clothes every second weekend, seems like i was a spoilt brat but not so, she did this for all 4 of us (my sister and 2 cousins and me of course), she also has a thing for jewelery and for xmas we were always sure to get either earrings, bracelets, rings or chains, and i have got quite a collection till this day, probably where my fetish for accessories comes from :D, I had a great childhood, truly blessed actually with great parents too ;)

i always remember how we used to go to my grandparents place to hand out all the presents, my mom was one of 9, so you can imagine there were a whole lot of grandkids running arround there, if I remember correctly about 19 to be exact.

There was always a huge pile of presents and we all got tons of presents and got the nicest things. Great memories and presents. Wish I was a kid again.

I like the idea of putting it under the bed! Problem is we are going to his mum's place and she has a one bedroom flat now as everyone has moved out and she thought the house was to big for her on her own :(

Her bed is one of them with drawers underneath so no speace to put a bike, But I think we can still put it somewhere else in the house with the same idea? I like it indeed hehe!

P.S. I want to be a kid again too - I used to love xmas! Our family and my mums sisters hehe! We were so bad that my aunty or mum used to sleep in the living room with the sofa up against the door so we didnt sneak in and open everything while they were not looking! We were very naughty when we all got together what can I say! Thing is there were only 4 of us back then! Since then my aunty has 2 more sons and my mum had 5 more kids! But we are a lot older than them hehe! They dont seem to do the tricks we did which is good, but they still have thier own tricks! Hhaa!

We never slept over there, so all our presents were stored at my grandparents place. So we never had the chance to try and sneak a peak at them. Used to be fun to try and guess what they were when we got there though.

Only presents we ever had a chance of peaking at were our birthday presents.

Hehe my sister was the worst at Christmas! She used to steal whole boxes of chocolate and go in her room and eat them and hide all the wrappers under her mattress LOL! Im so surprised all her teeth never fell out!
