This one is for all the Scotsmen out there looking for some retail jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/retail-jobs) in the new year, well maybe only at the end of next year but still something to look forward to...

News.Scotsman.com (http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/Supermarket-set-to-create-300.5929754.jp) have an article that says a Highland town is looking forward to a Christmas jobs boost next year after the government granted planning permission for a new superstore.

About 300 jobs are expected to be created when Sainsbury's opens in Nairn.

The decision follows a public inquiry into the plans. Work on the multimillion pound development is now due to start in the summer and the store, Sainsbury's first in the Highlands, could be open by Christmas next year.

Im not altogether sure of how things look in Scotland at the mo work wise, is it really tough out there to find work? Maybe someone living there can clarify as iv read that Scotland has been hit hard by the recession in quite a few news articles now.

Im not really a big fan of all these supermarkets popping up everywhere lately! Don't you find it affects smaller businesses in he area?

Im always a bit skeptical about this things as I do find that it can affect the smaller businesses in the area? What do you think?

I guess any amount of job creation is good but in the long term would these smaller businesses not be affected and jobs be lost anyway?

There do seem to be a lot of supermarkets going up. I think it can mean more jobs, but it definitely is going to have an effect on smaller businesses and might lead to job losses there.

Whether more jobs are created than lost, who can say?

I'm sure in some ways there are more jobs created but I feel for the local businesses - that can impact the business owners in a big way - I mean imagine losing your whole life's work because a supermarket opened up near you? As a small independent how do you stand a chance?

This is a store conversion, no additional store as such

Nairn had no supermarkets, until Safeway built a new one in the town centre
This was then sold to Somerfield
The building is quite small, by todays standard, and the small car park has always been an issue

A new larger store, and vastly larger car park, is now to be built, and not before time too!

Personally, I doubt 300 "new" jobs will be created, as some will be from the old store
As for the old store it will no doubt be knocked down, although saying that the old Safeway in Inverness is still sitting redundant 10 years later!

See you alw3ays know more than us its great :)

I suppose in this case then its not entirely a bad thing! Although if it is going to be a new build will it be on the same site as the existing supermarket or a new site?
