Well once again Bloomberg.com (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601102&sid=anv5TnfIMMZ4) reports that Lloyds, UK’s biggest mortgage lender, are planning more job cuts, 685 Retail jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/retail-jobs) to be exact this in their wholesale and consumer divisions and will be done by March 2011 across the UK taking into account the redeployment of workers and the “release” of contractual employees, the London-based bank said today.

They went on to say that “Compulsory redundancies will be a last resort,”. “The group’s policy is to use natural turnover and redeploy people wherever possible.”

685? man, thats rough.

I was reading abt pver 350 people being layed off at an engineering plant. What made it so hard to read was that they quoted wot some of the people said after hearing of the shutdown.

Lloyds are already making plans to fire people, how can they say that the redundancies are a last resort.

this isnt the way out of this recession. the more people are laid of, the worse the economy is going to get.... dont they understand this?

Bloody hell again?

They have made so many redundancies in the last year I cant believe there are actually more to be made????

How awful for all of those poor people that are working for them - I mean you just dont know what next with them do you?

you can never tell with any large corporation anymore. Im starting to think any and all evidence you find in media whether its quoted or not needs to be taken with at least a bag of salt.

It makes me wonder how these companies are able to keep going with all the jobs (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/latest-vacancies.html) that are being cut, i mean really wots going on here??, the remaining employees must be under one hell of a strain dont you think?, the work of the people that have been let go surely now falls on those that remain making their workload so much heavier.

Say for instance 4 job cuts are made in the section i work in, someone has to do those peoples work when they leave right? I dont think any of this is going to be good for productivity in the long run honestly.

It definately wont, no. and if you think abt it, how long will those left behind be able to cope before a break point is reached. I mean i was reading abt a french company where people are commiting suicide from work stress. I dont think we are going to see then end of it soon either.

the link is here if you want to read the article: Business Weekly (http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-01-25/suicides-inside-france-telecom-prompting-sarkozy-stress-testing.html)

I spoke to my sister a while back and she told me a co-worker and her boyfriend went over to Switzerland for a few days, while on the train 2 people jumped off and committed suicide , she said it was horrific to witness, the locals told them that its a regular occurrence these days people throwing themselves off the trains as they have nothing to live for, no jobs, no money, cant pay debts, this is disturbing you know so many people are suffering, you know how bad it has to be to actually take ones life?? gosh sad i tell ya real sad.

and yes Im gna flog this theory...... and a lot of these companies are firing people unnecessarily as well. Just to ensure that the board members take a bigger cut of the profits to the bank. Its been going on for years and to be honest im tired of it now. Since when has profit overtaken the importance of a human life?

Id have to agree there, some of these high up execs are taking home fat pay cheques while the little helpers are walking away every month with a pittance or being given the boot to supplement losses so that the big execs can still keep their same juicy salaries at the end of the month, greed its a cancer...

I just read that article and its awful! That many people from one company committing suicide! I'm surprised it took them so long to start looking into it!

I'm liking the idea of the 35 hour week though! That does sound great to me haha!

Too many people are losing thier jobs today! One of my friends works at a company where today they have announced they are going bust! No warning no nothing! Its crazy isn't it? I mean you go into work as usual and then get told "Sorry the company is crumbling" ooops! That in itself can cause unknown stress in a person! How horrible!

Its like reading the article from the manufacturing plant, it was truly gut wrenching to read all the quotes from the people that were layed off there.

a 35 hour week would be awesome, i think. :D what is the liklihood of that happening tho.
