Gosh there seems to still be an ongoing phenomena of jobs being lost or cut all over the place BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8478737.stm) say that some 200 petrol stations will be closing down soon and as a result a number of jobs (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/), well 1000 jobs actually will be going with them :( thats quite a staggering amount of people out of work.... The cause of all this is planned rises to the business rates of independent petrol stations in both England and Wales.

Oh losh not more. It seems that lately the more i read any news articles on the net theyre all talking abt job cuts. Cant these people see that its ot doing the economy any good to let so many people be unemployed? wot will hap0pen to the future generations when they see that their parents didnt work and relied on Inemployment cheques to make it through the month...... if that cycle is repeated I dont think it will have any kind of positive outcome.

There is still oversupply in this market place and margins are worse now than they were ten years ago

I worked for Shell many years ago and they were in the process of going from company owned to comission operator
Many people got "sold a dream", but to make money soon realised then needed to be operating three or more sites

I now work for BP and they had a similar scheme, but suspended this a few years ago now (pretty much for the same reasons)
BP has been trying to sell its revised franchise deal, but the costs have put many people off and they have switched to Shell or ESSO

Finally, many years ago there were just the main petrol companies
Supermarkets added about 3000 new petrol stations, so inevitably smaller unprofitable ones would close

The next 200 also includes sites which will be closed as it is uneconomic to install the next stage of Vapour Recovery, so I wonder how many this would actually be if you removed them!

Well they say money makes the world go round, I dont know so much anymore, money seems to be the number one curse on earth right now as everyone wants more but has less, and are trying everything and anything to get it, in the process its destroying everything....

Oh Dark Phoenyx forgot to reply to your reply :) sounds funny. I think half the worlds population are either out of a job or living on welfare, UIF, some homeless etc, here by us are so many homeless people on the streets you cant go anywhere without being asked for spare change. I found this chart depicting unemployment percentages around the world if you care to have a look, its quite grim.

Ive seen so many Statistics, I could become an analyst really. The thing that bothers me most is that company management are starting to look after themselves and sacrificing more people in order to do it.

Clearly if it carries on, the recession will continue indefinately to some degree. Money, MelliJelli these days seems to be the root of all evil. Its just that the more you get, the more you want.

So many people spend more than they can afford, dan on stuff they dont really need. All to suppliment a lifestyle that really does more harm than good. And when said people get more money, the lifestyle is upgraded, and the cycle continues.
