So few jobs so many people?? The chase is on for just 20 job spots at a new Wrexham store.

The QD stores group have been inundated with applications some 750 in total who have applied for these positions, The Leader (http://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/87778/750-people-go-for-just-20-jobs-at-new-wrexham-store.aspx) report that interviews for the positions will be held today and tomorrow at the Wynnstay Hotel.

There will be both full time and part-time jobs (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/) to choose from, ranging from shopfloor, stockroom and supervisory positions.

Just shows how many people are out of work these days :( i just keep thinking please dont let that happen to me...

Ive read this one yesterday. Can you imagine that it gives them a one in 35 chance of actually getting the job? Its a scary thought that.

What can you do if you dont have work, but apply wherever you can no matter what your chances are...and this is just for one town.

There is nothing for it but to apply for any positon you can.

I was wondering whether they actually go through all 750 applications or just grab a bunch and see if they can find enough suitable candidates out of that.

They probably skim through them and look out for the best ones in the pile and take it from there, cant imagine the pain of going through 750 cvs, must be torture

I think they will have some sort of process in place. And i think we can say with a certain amount of assurity that a few of them wont even have a cv, they'll just fill in the form and pop it off to the retailers and await the call. Ive seen a few that do that. And they dont even make it to the shortlist.

I read a survey the other day that said UK recruiters estimate that around 80% of submitted CVs do not properly showcase their experience and because of this many very talented candidates are overlooked by the hiring managers.

So in many cases you think you have the interview in the bag yet you dont get shortlisted for interviews that you know you deserve, and its all because your CV has let you down badly.

So many people have asked me if a professional cv is important, and YES it is important because you are competing with so many candidates and you just have to stand out and your cv does this for you.

I would myself would definitely use a CV writing professional and ask their advice if i needed. This cv writing (http://www.cvwritingcentre.co.uk/) service i had a look at a while back offers a free cv review (http://www.cvwritingcentre.co.uk/free-cv-review) which is well worth looking into.

Another thing is that most of the CV writers and CV coaches have a background in recruitment and know what potential employers are looking for and they are able to help you to set out your CV towards the current job market by pulling out skills and experiences that today’s hiring managers are looking for.

I dont know but if i were sitting at home jobless and was being told im sorry you did not get the job knowing that i have a crappy cv and did not have a clue where to begin id use one of these people or services to increase my chances at finding a job even if it did cost me some, dont you think?

Come to think of it, i might as well. Considering the amount of time i have to do it in, Im just too busy most days. So something like that for me would be ok. I just dont really trust oline things in general, from shopping, to people saying they can do this for you, or offer that service, in the end, it might just all be a huge money making scheme, and im sure a few people share my thoughts on that.

I was going through mine a while ago, and although i basically knew what to do with it i wanted to just see what else i could add to it, so i went to some sites and found that one, and they had a whole lot of interesting pages in there on all sorts.

I cant really afford 100 pounds right now but the free assessment wont do no harm and there is a downloadable eBook that you can get for something like 10 pounds i think it was, which is really not bad and it shows you how to do everything by yourself.

Online shopping for me would be books from Kalahari.net :D and thats as far as ill go, im not too trusting of all things online but there are some safe and reliable sites out there too, you just have to hunt them down.

I agree. Ill take a look at it today depending on my workload and see wot they say. It cant hurt to look anyway. Im nervous abt it, but its not like im signing a binding contract :D innit?

Im all for change and maybe its a good thing, im just worried it does not all work out and im stuck with nothing to do and thats not what i want at all, i cant see myself sitting at home doing nothing after working for the last 5 years everyday of my life .

Id have my hobbies and so on and believe me i have tons of those but there is just so much you can do until you get bored, and at least when you work you get PAID!!! sitting at home does not pay me at all.

Maybe i should just do a course and get more acquainted with some other software design packages like flash or dreamweaver, something like that....i must do something, cant just sit and wait for it all to be over with.

I agree. It would be good to get into flash and dreamweaver. They are the stalwarts so far in web design. Dreamweavers expensive tho, so maybe start with other editors first before trying dreamweaver?

Design software does not come cheap, but maybe at some stage i could sort something out, im going to look online at some courses see whats what.

You could work with trials, but it would be pointless as they only last 30 days at most, and it takes longer than that to learn how to use them.

Wot you could do is take a design course. all your study material includes the software you need. so it might include dreamweaver and flash as well.

Well i had a look and i think this one looks ok its home study courses (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/home-study-training-courses) that you can do from home, the one i had a look at is the flash, dreamweaver and adobe course, they say its a recognized working and accredited qualification too. Ill have a look into it and see if its worth the while.

I think dreamweaver is a bit complicated and flash too, but if you want to design beautiful web pages its what you will need to learn. Im not keen on all the trials one gets, as you said 30 days is way too little to do anything with.
