If ur looking for a new job then this is where to look...

Apparently there are some 40 000 retail jobs (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/retail-jobs) available or so say in this Mirror.co.uk (http://www.mirror.co.uk/advice/jobs/2010/04/29/great-prospects-for-in-store-jobs-115875-22219024/) news report, did you know that retailing employs one in ten UK jobs? Its the largest private sector employer in the UK at present and its ever growing, with 291 000 businesses, 3 million employees and 265 billion pound turnover one is sure to find something in retail as more than 1 million people come and go in this sector yearly.

Ok so thats what they say, and i was a bit skeptical cause when i think of retail i think of cashier jobs mostly or some such crappy position, but it has many different jobs you can go into such as they mentioned in the article like IT, floor, logistics, finance and also marketing.

Its also true that they say that retail outlets keep expanding even with the economic issues going on, iv seen many examples of this eg. Tesco who will be building a village which will include a civic centre, and library, there are also many that are re-developing stores and improving their stores, adding to them and their staff where they can, so id have to agree retail is doing well for themselves under the circumstances.

The one thing i find fault with is that they dont say where these millions of jobs can be found?

That's actually a shockingly poor statistic that, an average of just 10 employees per business

If there are 40,000 vacancies, then that means there are 4,000 businesses with NO employees! (obviously that can't be the case!)

Equally, there should actually be 3.04 million employees, so therefore the "3 million" quoted above should be two decimal places (as the number of business is quoted correctly)

I wish the media would quote statistics correctly
I remember hearing on the news that there were 350,000 of something
In fact the government had released an actual figure of 336,150 (or something like that)
In a later news article on the same day this had inflated to half a million!
news paper / website = BIG pinch of salt

lol m8internet thats true. but then wouldnt the budget scandal figures be inacurate? Ive also read abt 225, 000 public sector workers being made redundant by 2014. I guess, because its done by people then you can expect the usual over exagerations, but there would still be truth in it, and that i think we should take note of.

That's spin too!
How many of these workers are actually going to retire or leave anyway?
How many are actually going to be served with "redundancy"? (very few I expect, may be 10% of that actual figure)

Equally, if people do retire some posts have to be refilled as the department cannot operate

Its all so "wool over eyes" is'nt it? seems we have to just make our own conclusions from their assumptions and estimated statistics :D

Its totally like false advertising just on another level  Maybe they are too lazy to research everything properly yet they have to get some sort of news out to get paid right? so they roughly find out what is what and print it.

OR manybe theyre just researching half the facts and giving their opinion with the rest. Ive seen a few journalists do that before. IMO i think its just half for the fme of it and half for the readers benefit.

Ive actually started to question just abt everything i read nowdays which i believe in a bad way is kind of bad.

When youre young your parents teach you that a certain newspaper or news story always tell yuo the truth and that you can always rely on them for that, but as you grow older, you realise they were just pulling the wool over your eyes. well that was what my parents were like. dont know about you guys. :D

Yes, the BBC are good at that
They recently had an article about an issue in Scotland, and used photos from Reading!

Maybe they thought no one would pick up on it, and probably still do. Ive seen so many ppl believe wot they write. Then when theyre told otherwise, they will even argue the facts. Only because it came from the BBC. dont you think?
