    Default Suggestions Sought

    Guys & Girls,

The admin team are currently discussing options with regards to the forum going forward.

We are 100% behind the forum, and want to build it into one of the UK's biggest specialist business forums.

We currently run vBulletin 3.8, however the upgrade to vBulletin 4.0 will mean a complete rework of the site, as well as a much increased cost for a licence.

The other options are some of the various other forum codes we could migrate to.

Be assured, anything we do will retain all current users/posts, as well as all the functionality you use on this site.

We would be interested to hear feedback on what you would like to see:
    1) Are you happy with the vBulletin product?
    2) If yes, are there any particular reasons why?
    3) Is there a different forum base you can recommend?
    4) Any other comments?

    Many thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Richard

Although I use vBulletin, I have never liked the premium products

    My personal preference is phpBB
However it too has been updated and will no doubt be soon due another!

Equally, if it ain't broke don't fix
One of my own websites uses a very old version of Mambo as I didn't like the next version, and it's never been an issue

    Thanks m8.

The problem we face is we have always run a leased licence, and when this expires we shouldn't be running the software, so the only option is to upgrade to 4.0.

    Why not try this...
Backup the database and rename it
Install the files from the "free" version into a test directory, configure this for the renamed database

Quite a bit of work, but it will mean the upgrade can take place, albeit at the standard version

To my knowledge, there is no free version of vBull? We can get the v4 upgrade for free, but we would still have to pay/remove in the near future.

Apologies, just checked my resources and I withdrew vBulletin in 2008 due to the withdrawl of the free product
I then withdrew all support in 2009
The latest info I had was that the scripts for the free version were still available, but clearly they got pulled some time ago

As above, if it ain't free then I don't offer or support it

I am quite happy with what we use simply due to the fact that the site navigation is very user friendly

    Guys,

Just to keep you updated - we have gone ahead and started devloping for vBulletin v4

I have got a few hours to throw at it, so will possibly migrate over to the new system towards the end of the week.

The template itself will change - how much yet I'm not entirely sure until I have seen all the inner workings of the new code base

If there's anything you want to see changed, just drop me a PM...

We're pleased to advise we have now upgraded the forums, and have started working on the template design. We've already lined up some new features, as well as bringing back some old one's, which we'll add over the next couple of weeks.
